Here’s your hat — what’s your hurry? The National Republican Congressional Committee is trying to nudge 15-term incumbent Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-Queens) out the door.

Our Alison Gendar reports:

The NRCC cites Ackerman’s “lackluster fundraising — $55k and a 275% burn rate in the 4th quarter of last year,” and the possibility,

first reported in the Daily News

, that Ackerman’s and fellow Democrat Rep. Carolyn McCarthy districts would be combined.

Ackerman’s spokesman last week said Twitter rumors were “not true. No, he is not retiring.”

Nathaniel Sillin, NRCC’s regional spokesman, said in an email that the denials were mighty similar to what

Rep. Maurice Hinchey’s

spokesman said Dec. 31 to rumors Hinchey would retire. Three weeks later, Hinchey announced his retirement.

“Is it possible all that persistent chatter is true and NY Democrats are trying to delay the announcement for political gain?” Sillin wrote.
