Another top education official could be eyeing the door, report our Kenneth Lovett and Meredith Kolodner:
State Board of Regents Chancellor Merryl Tisch said on “The Capitol Press Room” radio program Thursday morning that State Education Commissioner David Steiner – who granted Cathie Black a controversial waiver to be schools chancellor – might be eyeing the door as well.
“I have heard a lot about that. I believe the commissioner is exploring options, but I think no decision has been made,” she said.
The State Education Department would not comment on whether Steiner was leaving or if a search is on for his replacement.
Black’s replacement, Deputy Mayor Dennis Walcott, will also require a waiver since he does not have a superintendent’s license
