The new Cool Ranch Doritos Locos Taco from Taco Bell tastes exactly as you would expect it.

Crunchy, salty and, well, almost like Cool Ranch.

The flavor is surprisingly subtle when compared to the original Doritos-Taco Bell collaboration, the day-glo orange Nachos Cheese Locos Tacos.

For some fans of the chip, it just didn’t hold up to the heavily seasoned meat filling.

“I’m kind of disappointed,” said Arnyce Foster, 38, a manager for the Parks Department. “It tastes like the Cool Ranch, but I was hoping they’d magnify it because the inside is kind of taking away from it.”

Others took it for what it is—a giant Doritos Cool Ranch shell stuffed with ground beef, cheese and shredded lettuce.

“It was pretty satisfying,” said Anuj Talati, a 19-year-old NYU student who first learned of the collab from his fraternity. Some of the guys had stopped by at midnight to give it a try.

Not everyone was able to find the new release, which was originally set to debut in restaurants on March 7. Taco Bell announced a date change via Facebook and Twitter on Monday, but not all of its franchises got the message to move it a day ahead.

Steve Kim, general manager at the Union Square outpost, says he’s received at least 25 calls from foodies looking for the Cool Ranch taco.

“It’s been pretty good,” Kim says of sales, but he declined to share specific numbers. Reviews have been mixed.

As for Foster, she was heading to another fast food joint to wash away her disappointment—the Harlem resident planned to stop at McDonald’s for a Shamrock Shake.
