He’s one lucky cat, but now has only eight lives left.
A 4 1/2-year-old kitty named Gizmo fell nine-story from a Manhattan penthouse and survived — with only broken tooth and scratches.
“I can’t believe he’s alive!” Gizmo’s owner, Samuel Jacobs, told the Daily News Thursday.
Jacobs — a deejay who goes by the stage name Sam Kosnani — said Gizmo’s miraculous plunged occurred sometime Tuesday when the Egyptian Mau got out of his 12th-floor penthouse on E. 32nd St. near Lexington Ave.
The cat, whose silver fur is dotted with black leopard spots, apparently scaled the 4 1/2-foot railing on Jacob’s terrace and slipped. The 11-pound Gizmo landed on the roof of the third floor, just missing a skylight.
Jacobs said he didn’t realize his pet was missing until he came home from a doctor’s appointment around 11 a.m. Tuesday and noticed that Gizmo hadn’t touched his food or water.
“I became frantic. I looked everywhere for him. I tore the apartment apart looking for the cat,” he said.
When he went out on his terrace and looked down, he couldn’t believe what he saw.
“He was sitting in a corner. I couldn’t tell if he was alive,” Jacobs said. “I start yelling, ‘No! No! No!’ I start yelling, ‘Gizmo! Gizmo!’ I’m thinking, ‘This cat is dead.'”
Jacobs raced down to the lobby and told a porter what happened. The porter started banging on doors of apartments, until one neighbor allowed Jacobs to go through his pad to fetch his cat from the third-floor landing.
He said he had to climb several ladders to reach the cat who was wedged between a skylight and a wall.
“I just looked at him and he had this look of relief,” he said of Gizmo. “He was crying and yelling. He was so freaked out.”
Jacobs rushed the cat a vet, thinking the animal was busted up inside.
“Ten minutes later, they come out and say, believe it or not, your cat is fine,'” Jacobs said. “I still can’t believe it. I just look at him and think, ‘that’s one lucky cat.'”
