ALBANY — City Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott is getting 24-hour police protection because of “security concerns” stemming from the school bus strike, the Daily News has learned.
A plain-clothed NYPD officer accompanied Walcott to Albany Tuesday and could be seen sitting behind the chancellor as he testified at a legislative budget hearing.
There’s also an around-the-clock NYPD presence outside the chancellor’s home in Queens, a city source confirmed.
“Obviously there were security concerns and the Police Department thought there was a need,” the city source said.
City officials declined to comment.
The strike marks its two-week anniversary Wednesday with few, if any, signs of a resolution.
