NEW YORK – One person was seriously injured after the second floor of an apartment collapsed in Upper Manhattan.

Fire officials say the victim was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital in critical condition after the Tuesday accident in the Hamilton Heights section.

Local media reported that the collapse occurred after an occupant of the second-floor apartment had filled the bathtub with water. The occupant, a 58-year-old man, fell to the first floor.

The buildings department is investigating the cause of the collapse.
