Dan Halloran Seeks Libertarian Line For NY-6 Run

Supporters of Republican Congressional hopeful Dan Halloran are circulating petitions to get him on the Libertarian Party line in the November election.

Our Lisa L. Colangelo reports:

Halloran, a City Councilman from Queens, is facing Assemblywoman Grace Meng, a Democrat, for the Sixth Congressional District seat. Rep. Gary Ackerman, a Democrat, is retiring at the end of the year.

Some political insiders questioned the wisdom of seeking the line in Democrat-heavy Queens. The district, which stretches from Bayside to Maspeth, has some conservative-leaning areas.

“If you are going to spend time, money and resources on a third party line you should be more creative,” said one insider. “You need to find a way to relate to moderate Democrats and Independents.”

Meng spokesman Austin Finan quickly pounced: “It’s no surprise that Dan Halloran is seeking the Libertarian Party line – a party which opposes gun control, encourages the outsourcing of American jobs, supports tax breaks for major corporations and the ultra-wealthy, does not value a strong U.S.-Israeli relationship and whose values are wholly inconsistent with those of middle class Queens families. Sounds like Dan Halloran in a nutshell.”

Update

: Says Halloran spox Steven Stites, “Dan Halloran is running for lower taxes and limited government. It’s no surprise that Assemblywoman Meng is up in arms about this, since she wants to raise your taxes.”
