Even Mayor Bloomberg can’t stomach the corny lines he’s fed sometimes by his speechwriters.

“Who wrote this sh-t?” the potty mouthed mayor asked during the annual weigh in for the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest.

Bloomberg had just rattled off an impressive 12 hot dog puns as he helped promote the annual Coney Island 4th of July tradition.

He said he wanted to be “perfectly frank” and called the competition a “dog fight.”

He quipped that fans watching on the ESPN broadcast will see if the “dogged” pursuers of reigning champs Joey ‘Jaws’ Chestnut and Sonya ‘The Black Widow’ Thomas will “catch up, cut the mustard and be pronounced wiener.”

There was plenty more where that came from – and, despite ten years of elected office and hundreds of goofy stunts and ribbon cuttings — Bloomberg had reached his limit and panned the puns with a four-letter word.

It was not the first time he accidentally aired his famously foul mouth in public.

Last year, he called a Staten Island rodent who’d bitten his hand a “little son of a b—h.”

As for the weigh-in contest, Chestnut, who has won five straight titles, weighed in at a solid 210 pounds. Thomas came in at an even 100.

Chestnut said he’s in the middle of three days of fasting to prepare his body for the imminent flood of franks.

“I think today I have to eat one hot dog and then I’ll go back to fasting,” he said. “It’s mostly just knowing when I’m empty, convincing my body it’s alright to accept that much food, and getting my body used to digesting that ridiculous amount.”

Chestnut said he will know in the first few minutes whether he can top his world record 68 hot dogs in 10 minutes from the 2009 competition. Thomas, who won the inaugural women’s competition last year with a world record 41 franks, said she plans to eat her age — 45, — in hot dogs this year.

After that, does the thought of another hot dog nauseate the champs? Don’t count on it.

“I’m hoping I’ll be full but I love hot dogs. I love the competition,” Chestnut said. “If I had to eat another one the same day I could.”

And while Bloomberg wasn’t chowing down on dozens of franks, he did enjoy one Nathan’s Famous for lunch.
