UPDATED: Should Team John Liu get the award for today’s most mysterious press release (or maybe even a hElmo?) for this statement about Dan Garodnick announcing for NYC comptroller?
“Dan is a perceptive politician who knows of some of the private conversations John has had recently. The announcement today is a smart move on his part to get a jump on his competitors. John wishes him well.”

: A knowledgable source tells me, “Garodnick and Liu had a discussion this morning and Garodnick said he was running for comptroller because all indications from John, including newspaper reports, [suggest] that John is running for mayor.
“
So this statement basically says that John has made his decision and is running for mayor
, and good luck to Dan.
“
Well, that ought to clear it right up…

: Another knowledgable source adds, “Dan didn’t know John’s plans, and frankly still doesn’t understand what they are. But, whatever they may have been/may be/may be tomorrow, they are irrelevant to Dan’s decision.”
