This year's event also drew an increased police presence and new securtiy precautions as the event has continued to see violence over the years. Magnetic scanners and the beefed up security was met with mixed reviews from revelers trying to enjoy the parade. While some appreciated the effort, others felt it was more of a burden than doing any good. "I live down the block, why can't I just go in?? a woman asked cops. "What am I supposed to do, empty my bag?"

One person was stabbed and another person was shot along the New York Caribbean Carnival Parade route on Monday — a bloody sideshow of mayhem unrelated to the annual Brooklyn event.

The injuries to the victims were not life-threatening, according to police.

The 22-year-old shooting victim was hit in the chest and taken to Kings County Hospital, where he was in stable condition, police said.

The shooting occurred at 4:47 p.m. between New York and Brooklyn Aves. in Crown Heights.

Police sources identified the victim as Kenneth Smith-Gustave.

Cops are searching for suspects and a possible motive but had no description for the shooter, sources said.

The stabbing victim, a 20-year-old man, was assaulted on the same block about 6:15 p.m. He was taken to New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital.

According to police, a 14-year-old injured his arm in an accident with a barricade. Cops also said a 17-year-old injured his head after falling off a float on Eastern Parkway near the Brooklyn Museum.

Neither injury was life-threatening.

A Daily News reporter witnessed chaos on Eastern Parkway between Classon and Franklin Aves. at about 3:20 p.m. People screamed and crowds knocked over barriers to get away from the bedlam. Several young men sprinted through the crowd and police followed.

“They jumped someone,” said a woman who ran off without giving her name.

The West Indian Day Parade kicked off Monday led by politicians, including Gov. Cuomo.

An emcee barked from a nearby float, “Every time we do this your foolishness ruins the carnival!”

A young man was seen bleeding and clutching his arm before he ran off.

Police said they had no reports of any attack at that spot.

Later in the day, cops used a Taser in arresting a 36-year-old man who attacked two officers at Eastern Parkway and Kingston Ave. at about 5:05 p.m., police said.

The man refused to comply with a lawful order – cops didn’t say what the order was – then bit a male officer the leg and struck a female officer’s leg, police said.
