A 53-year-old man crossing a busy street in the Bronx died after he was struck by an SUV, police said Friday.
The man was walking south across E. Tremont Ave. near St. Peters Ave. in Westchester Square when a Lincoln Navigator traveling west slammed into him around 9:50 p.m. Thursday, according to authorities.
The victim died at the scene and his name was not immediately released, police said.
The driver of the SUV was not immediately charged, according to cops.
Police sources told the Daily News that the collision appears to be accidental.
E. Tremont Ave. has been altered by the city to improve pedestrian safety under Vision Zero. Further changes have also been proposed by the agency.
