Vice President Mike Pence stands with Israel — but flies flags for Nicaragua.
As Pence declared his unequivocal support for Israel during a speech at the Republican Jewish Coalition in Las Vegas on Friday night, one of his staffers tweeted out Nicaraguan flags from the official Vice Presidential account — twice.
“Under @POTUS Trump, we will stand with Israel,” somebody tweeted out minutes before Pence’s speech, followed by a Nicaraguan flag emoji.
As Pence started speaking, a staffer dished out, “Under @POTUS, the world will know America stands with Israel” — again followed by the Nicaraguan banner.
The Israeli and Nicaraguan flags both feature blue horizontal banners. But the Israeli flag’s banners are much thinner and enclose the six-pointed Star of David, while the Nicaraguan flag’s banners enclose a triangle comprised of volcanoes, a rising sun and a rainbow.
The White House did not immediately return a request for comment from the Daily News, but Pence staffers had deleted the flubbed flag tweets by early Saturday. President Trump has also deleted a handful of tweets, which some say could violate the Presidential Records Act.
Trump was blasted earlier this month for suggesting that he might not insist on a two-state solution in the tumultuous Israel-Palestine conflict. Pence hasn’t publicly taken a stand on the issue.
The Vice President’s bungled tweets drew blistering sarcasm over social media.
“Even the VP doesn’t believe Israel exists,” one Twitter user posted, adding an “I Stand With Nicaragua” hashtag.
Another Twitter user took the opportunity to take a jab at Trump’s recently confirmed Education Secretary.
“Betsy Devos must’ve taught Mike Pence about geography bc that’s definitely the flag for Nicaragua, not Israel!” they wrote.
