Cyndi Lauper didn’t care for Madonna’s true colors.
The ’80s pop icon said Madonna’s fiery Women’s March speech “didn’t serve its purpose,” but instead just showed off her anger.
Madonna came under fire after she gave a profanity-laced speech noting she’s thought about blowing up the White House, but then urged people to choose love instead.
“I don’t think that it served our purpose because anger is not better than clarity and humanity,” Lauper said on “Watch What Happens Live!”
“That is what opens people’s minds. When you want to change people’s minds, you have to share your real story.”
The “True Colors” songstress added that she felt Scarlett Johansson’s speech — which detailed her experiences using Planned Parenthood — was much more effective for the cause.
“She shared her story. It was clear and it was eloquent,” she said.
“Yelling doesn’t. It just jacks people up but it doesn’t communicate any type of humanity or any kind of story that would open another person’s mind,” she continued, addressing Madonna’s outburst.
Lauper did however applaud Madonna for joining the fight on Sunday, despite how ineffective her words might have been.
“I was glad that she went,” Lauper said. “I think it happens a lot when you are really jacked up, feeling your emotions.”
