Newt Gingrich accused Fox News host Megyn Kelly of biased coverage concerning Donald Trump’s alleged sexual assaults, claiming in a heated exchange that she was “fascinated with sex.”
“You want to go back to the tapes of your show recently? You are fascinated with sex and you don’t care about public policy,” the former GOP House Speaker said on Fox News’ “The Kelly File.”
“Me? Really?” Kelly said, crocking an eyebrow. “Listen, Mr. Speaker, I’m not fascinated by sex, but I am fascinated by the protection of women and understanding what we’re getting in the Oval Office.”
Gingrich, an ardent Trump supporter, blew his top, lashing out at the media for reporting on 12 women who have accused the GOP presidential nominee of sexual assault.
He asked Kelly why she wasn’t concerned about Bill Clinton’s history as a cad. Kelly countered she had covered sex abuse allegations lobbed at the former President, but pointed out that polls have shown voters are more interested in allegations against a man who’s currently asking the American people to elect him to the office.
“You can take your anger issues and spend some time working on them, Mr. Speaker,” Kelly concluded the interview.
“And you too,” Gingrich shot back.
The Twittersphere erupted following the angry back-and-forth, with opinions all over the map.
“After she was so rude to Mike Pence, I was in heaven when Newt let the Bimbo Megyn Kelly have it! We all say thank you, Mr. Gingrich,” one Trump-supporting Twitter user said.
“Megyn Kelly talked back & stood up to adulterer & thrice married Newt Gingrich. Now Trump’s supporters are mad at her. Good for Ms. Kelly,” another tweeter offered.
Trump’s social media director, Dan Scavino, came out in support of Gingrich, saying Kelly is “not very smart” and “made a total fool out of herself.”
