School safety agents collared a student with a gun and ammunition at a Bronx school Wednesday morning, union officials said.
The 20-year-old student was caught with a .38-caliber handgun with four bullets at Providing Urban Learners Success In Education High School, union officials said.
The student was arrested and taken from the school in handcuffs, union officials added.
No injuries were reported in the incident that took place within the public alternative high school, city Education Department spokeswoman Toya Holness said.
“The NYPD immediately responded to this serious incident and we are working in close partnership with them as they conduct an investigation,” Holness said.
Wednesday’s incident marks the second time a student was busted with a gun in a city school since the start of the school year on Sept. 8.
School safety agents caught a 15-year-old student with a loaded .22-caliber pistol at the Brooklyn School for Career Development on the city’s very first day of classes.
That incident happened just a few miles from where Mayor de Blasio and schools Chancellor Carmen Fariña welcomed kids to the opening of school at Intermediate School 392 in Brownsville.
Local 237 President Gregory Floyd, whose union represents the school safety agents, said the mayor needs to increase safety in the public schools.
“When will Mayor de Blasio wake up? Guns have one purpose,” Floyd said. “What does he think will happen?”
