Julianne Hough calls NHL star fiancé Brooks Laich leader of their relationship, poses in colorful photoshoot for Redbook magazine

She’s one of Hollywood’s budding superstars, but “Grease: Live” actress Julianne Hough doesn’t even play the leading lady in her own life.

The 27-year-old beauty admits her NHL star fiancé Brooks Laich is the one who takes charge in their relationship — and that’s fine by her.

“Because of the nature of my career, it’s very easy for me to call the shots and ‘be the man,'” she tells Redbook magazine in its new cover story. “So it’s very nice to feel like a strong woman and still have my man be my leading man.”

Hough, of course, is emerging as a leader in other phases of her life, particularly within the movie circuit. She earned rave reviews for her dazzling performance as Sandy in last month’s acclaimed “Grease” extravaganza, and she’s also appeared in recent films such as “Bad Grandpa” and “Curve.”

The actress, who got engaged to the Washington Capitals center in August, knows her life is something of a fairytale right now, but that still doesn’t mean she’s immune from breaking down in tears every now and then.

“Trust me, I have my days when I just break down and cry,” she told the magazine. “I don’t even know why I’m crying.”

“(But) if you never feel sad about anything, there’s nothing dynamic to life,” she continued. “And that’s boring.”

Hough, who posed in a series of charming, colorful photos for the upcoming issue of Redbook, also told the magazine that she’s only going to look for roles that she’ll have fun doing moving forward.

But it doesn’t look like she’s totally moved on from her last gig yet, as she posted a heartwarming Instagram photo of herself, as well as her friend Nina Dobrev, wearing Pink Ladies jackets from “Grease: Live” on Tuesday morning.

“Love when my girls … come over for a girls night to cook and watch #GreaseLive,” she captioned the snapshot. “It’s not over yet.”

The March issue of Redbook featuring Hough on the cover hits newsstands on Feb. 16.
