New York’s Hometown Newspaper was New York’s only newspaper on NY1’s “In the Papers” segment Tuesday morning.

“Here’s my stack of newspapers,” host Pat Kiernan said with a laugh as he held up the day’s Daily News.

“There was the travel ban, of course,” Kiernan continued. “Somehow the Daily News got the sports final edition to me.”

He then gave the print edition the TV spotlight for nearly two minutes before settling for screenshots of news from Tuesday’s New York Times, Wall Street Journal and New York Post.

Kiernan usually gets at least a dozen local and national newspapers for his daily segment, where he flips through his favorite stories from each day’s printed news.

Kiernan told the Daily News this was the only time in nearly 18 years of “In the Papers” he had only one to show on air.

“Even on days when we’ve had major storms, there’s enough movement of delivery trucks that even if they didn’t get to me in time, somebody was able to pick it up at a newsstand,” he said.

After he saw the Daily News waiting for him Tuesday morning, and realized the others weren’t on the way, that the anchor realized that was his only newspaper for the day.

“(I thought) wait a minute, the streets are closed, the subways are closed, the bridges are closed. I’m not sure I can get any more papers than this one,” he said.

So what was the Daily News secret for storm-defying delivery?

Kiernan said most of the papers get delivered in one batch, but several years ago the Daily News dispatched its own drivers to make sure it was on “In the Papers” each day.

“I was glad to have it waiting on my desk this morning,” Kiernan said.

Even though Kiernan went digital to display the day’s other New York papers, he said on air he prefers to do “In the Papers” with the papers in hand.
