They’re the most paparazzi-hounded couple in the world, yet Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie pulled off a super-secret South of France wedding — and then kept it hush-hush for five days.
Bowing to years of insistence by their six children, the A-list newlyweds got hitched Saturday in an intimate chapel at Château Miraval, their leased vineyard estate in the Provence hamlet of Correns, a spokesman for the pair said Thursday.
One guest told Hollywood Life, “Every single day their kids asked them to get married,” adding “they finally broke them down and got their wish.”
Jolie, 39, wore a plain white floor-length antique lace and silk dress that nearly took her betrothed’s breath away.
“Brad lifted (her veil) and gasped because she looked so stunning,” a source told E! News.
The insider described Jolie’s wedding gown as “very traditional, but very Angie.”
The 50-year-old Pitt and Jolie’s six children had starring roles in the romantic nuptials — fulfilling a wish the “Maleficient” actress had longed for, the couple’s spokesman told The Associated Press.
Eldest sons Maddox, 13, and Pax, 10, received the honor of walking their mother down the chapel aisle, while daughters Zahara, 9, and Vivienne, 6, dappled their path to the altar with rose petals.
Shiloh, 8, and Knox, 6, served as ring bearers.
No more than 22 relatives and close friends witnessed the “I dos,” which were sealed with a long kiss.
Jolie’s estranged father, Oscar-winning actor Jon Voight, was not invited, but Pitt’s parents, Jane and William, were among the guests.
The nondenominational civil ceremony was performed by a California judge who had obtained a marriage license on the couple’s behalf, the spokesman said.
Pitt and his sons were decked out in cream-colored tuxedos.
“The girls had each chosen a dress to match their own individual style and they had them specially made,” the E! News insider said.
Keeping the tradition of wearing something old as well as new, Jolie donned a small gold locket that contained a photo of her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, who died of ovarian cancer in 2007. The locket apparently once belonged to Bertrand.
“Brad and Angie wrote their own wedding vows,” another guest told Hollywood Life. “It was a very intimate wedding, very classy and elegant.”
Pitt and his Academy Award-winning bride admitted they fell in love 2005 while filming the tongue-in-cheek thriller “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.” Dubbed “Brangelina” by the celebrity media, the pair got engaged in April 2012 after adopting three children, from Cambodia, Ethiopia and Namibia, and having three biological kids.
They previously said they wouldn’t get married until gay marriage was legal.
“The reason for getting married was very simple: Obviously they love each other very much,” the guest told Hollywood Life. And the children “ask them multiple times a day as well.
“Now that everyone is old enough to understand what is going on, they decided why not,” the guest said.
The pair was spotted arriving on a private jet at the Nice airport Friday, with their children in tow. But they offered no public hints that their long-anticipated wedding was in the works.
Even though he was kept in the dark about the wedding, Voight — who attended the Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on Monday, nominated for his role in the drama “Ray Donovan” — offered his daughter and son-in-law a terse congratulations.
“It seems like it was a beautiful, simple ceremony with all the kids involved. Must have been a lot of fun. I am very happy for them,” Voight, 75, said in a statement Thursday.
George Clooney, who is planning a wedding of his own to international human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin, also expressed joy for Jolie and Pitt — his co-star in “Ocean’s Eleven,” “Ocean’s Twelve” and “Ocean’s Thirteen.”
“How great is that?!” Clooney told People magazine. “I’m really happy for Brad and Angie and their whole family.”
While no wedding photos have been released, Pitt was sporting his wedding ring Thursday at The Tank Museum in Bovington, England, where he was doing publicity for his upcoming film “Fury.” The ring was reportedly designed by his friend, luxury jewelry designer Robert Procop.
It was the second marriage for Pitt and the third for Jolie.
The “Moneyball” star’s five-year marriage to actress Jennifer Aniston ended in 2005. Jolie was married to British actor Jonny Lee Miller from 1996 to 1999 and actor Billy Bob Thornton from 2000 to 2003.
In a 2012 interview, Pitt said he was excited about the prospect of marrying Jolie.
“To concertize in that way, it actually means more to me than I thought it would,” he told The Associated Press. “It means a lot to our kids.”
Coincidentally, Pitt and Jolie are slated to get married on screen in their upcoming movie “By The Sea” — only the second film they’ve done together since “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.”
In July, Jolie told Australia’s TV Week magazine that she and Pitt keep their romance strong with frequent sentimental gestures for each other.
“We wrote handwritten letters to each other that were very connecting for us,” Jolie said. “He was supportive from a distance, and it was quite romantic in a way.”
