A pregnant mother-of-four has died after being stung by wasps.
Sarah Harkins, 32, passed away after suffering an allergic reaction to the attack, which happened after she disturbed a wasps’ nest in her yard, in Spotsylvania County, Va., on Monday.
Harkins was 21 weeks pregnant.
Her and husband Eric’s fifth child was going to be a girl called Cecilia Rachel.
The stay-at-home mom would have celebrated her 33rd birthday on Saturday.
“Her passing was so tough, because I love her so much. She’s a gift that was given from God, he knows that I needed her and she was this amazing gift, ” a grief-stricken Eric told the Free Lance-Star.
Doctors were initially able to revive her, but discovered she had a brain aneurysm.
“She fell unconscious and went to the hospital and it was discovered there was a brain aneurysm, and during the trauma of it all, it burst and caused her death,” her brother Tom Schultzetenberg told 4 NBC Washington.
The young couple met a Catholic university in 2005. One of their four children was born with Down’s Syndrome.
On her blog — The Clay Rosary Girl — Sarah described herself as a “stay-at-home mom in Virginia”. She made and sold rosaries online.
Her family claim that husband Eric is “not equipped” to raise the family by himself.
Family and friends have set up two online funds so the children can get a “faith-based” education.
Donations had already reached almost $140,000, with money coming from as far away as France and Switzerland.
