As the fight over Mayor de Blasio’s hopes of taxing the rich to pay for early childhood education ramps up, City Council Majority Leader Jimmy Van Bramer says New York is at a “progressive moment” where that plan can come to fruition.

“This is about recognizing that everyone is entitled to a living wage and benefits and pensions,” Van Bramer tells Teamsters Local 237 President Gregory Floyd in an interview to air Saturday.

“And in order to fund some of the programs that all New Yorkers benefit from — and working New Yorkers need — we should be able to say to those who make half a million dollars or more, ‘If you contribute just a little bit more, we’ll be able to make sure that every child has a seat in pre-k, that every child has an afterschool program to go to in middle school,'” Van Bramer continues. That’s what this progressive moment is about.”

“Reaching Out With Gregory Floyd” airs at 8 a.m. Saturday on AM 970 The Answer radio, and during the week on NYC and Long Island cable TV.
