Rupert Murdoch is in London to speak with News UK staff following the phone hacking trial, according to reports Thursday.
The 83-year-old was pictured reading a copy of his “The Sun” newspaper as he made his way to the company’s Wapping headquarters in a Range Rover, ITV News reported.
His arrival in the UK follows the conviction of former News of The World editor Andy Coulson, 46, for phone hacking on Tuesday. Ex-News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks, 46, was cleared of all charges – including phone hacking and bribery – following the 8-month trial.
Murdoch is also expected to be questioned by police at some point, but the exact time or date of the interview has not yet been revealed.
They may be preparing to press corporate charges on the media baron under section 79 of Britain’s Regulation and Investigatory Powers Act. It holds company directors liable if evidence shows they consented or connived with the misdeeds of employees, or were negligent.
Scotland Yard reportedly wanted to speak to Murdoch as a suspect last year, but cops agreed to lay off until after the phone hacking trial ended
