Derek Hough has something to say about Julianne Hough‘s Halloween costume controversy.
The “Dancing with the Stars” pro opened up to E! News backstage at Monday’s live show explaining that his little sister is “mortified” over the backlash she has received for donning blackface at a Halloween party in Hollywood on Friday.
The 25-year-old actress stepped out portraying Crazy Eyes, a character played by actress Uzo Aduba, from the hit Netflix series “Orange is the New Black.”
Hough was attending the Casamigos Tequila Halloween party among a group of friends dressed as the cast of the show.
“She’s my little baby sister and she’s the sweetest thing ever,” said the Emmy award-winning dancer, who also attended the Halloween bash over the weekend.
“She is just beyond beside herself. She’s so apologetic. She’s so so sorry.”
“Obviously, it wasn’t her brightest moment in her life, but hopefully we can move on,” he continued to E!.
After the negative reactions from her fans, Hough took to Twitter Saturday to publicly apologize for her lapse in judgment.
“I am a huge fan of the show Orange is the New Black, actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created,” she wrote. “It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize.”
