That would be more “How I Met Your Father,” in this case.
First Lady-to-be (in around nine hours from now) Chirlane McCray on Tuesday treated daughter Chiara and son Dante to a glimpse of the City Hall office where she first met Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio — and shared the moment on the web.
Via
, the beaming family of four is shown huddled in the space — adorned with portraits of leaders past and big flat computer screens that might’ve been the stuff of sci-fi back in ’91, when the future bride and groom crossed paths while both worked in the Dinkins Administration.
“Where it all began…”
she tweeted with the picture, which shows the kids in dark jackets — Chiara’s accented with a striped scarf — and McCray and de Blasio bundled up in overcoats.
The family headed to City Hall amid the buzz of mic checks and final preparations for de Blasio’s New Year’s Day inaugural, which will feature former President Bill Clinton administering the oath of office.
De Blasio will have already taken the helm in a post-midnight ceremony at the family’s Park Slope home (for now — they’re moving to Gracie), with state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman doing the honors.
The current public advocate is fond of saying he got infatuated with McCray quickly — in part due to her chic, which wasn’t exactly the City Hall standard. As he told our Heidi Evans
:
“The first time I met her, I remember it very vividly, and it was partly look, partly style, and partly just the vibe, I was totally struck because she just presented herself entirely differently than everyone around us at City Hall. Especially wearing a nose ring 22 years ago in a place like City Hall, you had to be really different to do that!”
Although McCray
at the time, she said the attraction quickly became mutual. Six months after their first meeting, they’d moved in together, and wed in 1994.
As for
that post-midnight swearing-in
, it looks like
it might not be (completely) closed press
after all… Stay tuned for updates —
