Daniel Squadron is out with a new Spanish-language ad ahead of Tuesday’s public advocate runoff against Letitia James, playing up his record on fighting illegal guns — and his support from Latino electeds.
Squadron, a state senator, features Sen. Chuck Schumer prominently in the :30 spot for his “defensor del pueblo” bid, as well as appealing to the critical Hispanic vote by listing endorsements from fellow Democrats Adriano Espaillat, Jose Peralta, Jose Serrano, Gustavo Rivera, Gabriela Rosa, Martin Dilan, and Ydanis Rodriguez.
Team Squadron says it’s already made 300,000 calls to voters ahead of the Oct. 1 runoff, which is widely predicted to draw weak turnout, and supporters have distributed more than 90,000 “Dear Neighbor” letters.
The new spot re-emphasizes the importance of the
bloc, which is steadily growing (though it is not a monolith) in NYC politics.
Squadron’s shop didn’t immediately respond to questions about the scope of the buy.
, unions such as 32BJ are also making a heavy play for Spanish-speaking voters, with targeting in neighborhoods such as Washington Heights.
Squadron placed second to James in the five-way Sept. 10 primary, which led to a runoff because no one hit 40% of the vote.
