Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump on Thursday doubled down on questioning Jeb Bush for not sticking to English on the campaign trail — even though Trump’s own wife has proudly proclaimed their son is being raised bilingual.
“Barron speaks two languages completely perfect,” Melania Trump said with motherly pride during a 2011 appearance on the “Joy Behar Show.”
“He goes from one thing to another,” the former supermodel said of young Barron’s ability to speak both English and her native Slovenian with equal facility.
Barron, now 9 years old, would speak to his grandparents in Slovenian, Trump’s wife said in the interview.
Team Trump had no immediate comment when asked by the Daily News how the billionaire candidate’s comments about Bush squared with his own family’s approach to languages other than English.
Trump this week chided Bush — who is himself bilingual and whose wife is originally from Mexico — about not sticking to English during an interview with Breitbart News published Wednesday.
Bush on Tuesday had told reporters at a Miami campaign stop that “El hombre no es conservador,” or in English, “the man is not conservative.”
JEB BUSH: I LAUGHED AFTER DONALD TRUMP SAID I SHOULD ONLY SPEAK ENGLISH ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL
Trump fired back by telling Breitbart, “I like Jeb. He’s a nice man. But he should really set the example by speaking English while in the United States.”
Bush called Trump’s comment “a joke” during a Thursday appearance on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
“We heard people ask me a question in Spanish and I answered it in Spanish,” said Bush, who deemed Trump’s language lesson “bizarre” and also “hurtful for a lot of people” who are learning English.
Asked about Bush’s pushback during a Thursday afternoon news conference, Trump — who has gained both fans and detractors for his comments about some immigrants from Mexico being “rapists” and criminals — stuck to his guns.

“Well, I think that when you get right down to it, we are a nation that speaks English. And I think while we’re in this nation, we should be speaking English,” he said.
“Whether people like it or not, that’s how we assimilate.”
Trump went on to elaborate, “I’m not just talking about Spanish. I’m talking about from various parts of the world. That’s how they will become successful and do great. So I think it’s more appropriate to be speaking English.”
