The best feast ever?

A Florida fisherman caught a record-setting 805-pound shark earlier this month, and then celebrated by barbecuing the 11-foot mako and devouring it with friends.

“It was really good,” Joey Polk told the Daily News on Monday. “It’s not real fishy. It does not have a real gamy, fishy taste.”

Polk caught the mako off the Florida Panhandle with the help of two cousins. The feat is recognized by the International Land-Based Shark Fishing Association as the largest mako catch ever, he said.

Polk broke the mako record set by cousin Earnie Polk — who was with him for this historic catch.

“It was really exciting to say the least,” Polk said. “I fought the fish for a little more than an hour.”

With the battle over, the feast was on, but the father of three said killing the shark is always the last resort.

“We tried to revive the fish and send him back out, but he was too worn out to swim,” the 29-year-old Joey Polk said. “That’s why we decided to keep him. We don’t do it for the money, for the publicity, just to catch the fish.”

The Milton, Fla., resident also holds the record for largest tiger shark caught, according to the ILSFA. But he says this may be his most memorable.

“This is probably our best catch ever,” he said. “They are not supposed to be here. They are open water fish and tend to stay in cold deeper waters.”
