PASADENA, Calif. — Jimmy Fallon says he gave Gov. Chris Christie a heads-up before Fallon and Bruce Springsteen sang a “Born to Run” parody this week joking about Christie’s George Washington Bridge traffic problem.
“I really thought about” the fact Christie is a major Springsteen fan, Fallon told TV critics Sunday. “And he has been on the show.”
But in the end, said Fallon, he went ahead on the Jan. 14 show because “the bit was funny.”
He and Springsteen, dressed in identical retro-’80s Springsteen stage attire with headbands, sang lines like, “They shut down the tollbooths of glory / ‘Cause we didn’t endorse Christie.”
“I let Christie know ahead of time,” said Fallon. “Silver lining: Bruce Springsteen will say your name.”
So far, said Fallon, he hasn’t heard back from Christie.
