Potential GOP NY Gov. Hopefuls Rob Astorino, Carl Paladino To Address Conservatives

The Conservative Party of New York State is trying to step on Gov. Cuomo’s upcoming State of the State Address a bit in announcing its own annual political conference, framing the get-together as a counter to the “radical” (read tax-hiking) policies it expects the gov to roll out on Wednesday.

All this, of course, as New York waits to see what will happen between Cuomo, Mayor de Blasio and state lawmakers on the idea of universal pre-K and how to fund it…

“When the Party’s fiscal policies are adopted, New York will reduce its deficits, and end unnecessary borrowing that will eventually lower the tax rate for everyone,” said CPNYS Chairman Michael Long in a statement on the conference, to be held in Albany Jan. 25 and 26.

“Government spending was beginning to slow, but, the rhetoric being reported does not indicate that spending will decrease nearly enough for voters to be confident that their taxes will be reduced.”

Among the featured speakers: Two Republicans talking up a bid to thwart Cuomo’s re-election: Westchester County Exec

Rob Astorino

and Buffalo businessman

Carl Paladino

, the GOP’s 2010 gubernatorial nominee.

As SOP notes

, Astorino is scheduled to headline a state Republican Party “GOP Rising Stars” reception at the Fort Orange Club in Albany on Jan. 21 — the same day Cuomo is slated to roll out his budget proposal.
