They both could use some coaching.
Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan talked a big game Monday night when he introduced Donald Trump at an upstate rally — but the GOP front-runner fumbled right away, calling the ringless Ryan a great coach “who won championships” in New York and confusing 9/11 with 7-Eleven.
Ryan, who took the New York Jets to two AFC championship games — and lost both — before becoming the Bills’ coach last year, introduced Trump to a roaring crowd at the First Niagara Center in downtown Buffalo.

But when it came to an actual endorsement, the defensive mastermind punted.
“We all know I’m not a politician, I’m not a public speaker, I’m just a football coach,” Ryan said in his short warm up remarks.
“One thing I really admire about him is … he’ll say what’s on his mind,” Ryan told the crowd. “Donald Trump has the courage to say it. And that’s what I respect, and you know what? So do the people of New York.”

Trump is also “one of the greatest businessmen … that we can ever remember. There’s no question about that,” Ryan gushed. “This is a great honor for me to introduce Donald Trump.”
The two men embraced when Trump emerged on the stage.
Ryan is known for intriguing passions — he keeps a photo of his wife’s feet on his desk, and his brother Rob has called him “a little freaky” when it comes to feet.
The coach has said he was only prepared to endorse New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie — who has dropped out of the GOP race. Ryan called Christie his “lap-band brother” because they both underwent weight-loss surgery at the same time.
Trump didn’t seem to mind as he gilded Ryan’s résumé with some fantasy championship wins.
He also told the crowd he’ll “be rooting for the Bills.”
Last week, Trump stunned crowds at Pittsburgh when he cried out, “How’s Joe Paterno?” It was a reference to the legendary Penn State football coach who died in 2012 after getting fired for failing to report allegations of a sex-abuse scandal that went on for decades at the school.

Monday’s rally was on the eve of New York’s pivotal primary, when 95 GOP delegates will be at stake.
The raucous Buffalo crowd chanted “Build the wall, build the wall” at times during Trump’s speech — to the loudmouthed businessman’s obvious delight.
But Trump dropped the ball just as he launched into a long-winded riff on the New York values on display after 9/11 — mistakenly saying “on 7-Eleven” as he praised the firefighters and cops who were killed in the World Trade Center terror attacks.
“I helped a little bit,” Trump shamelessly added about the cleanup efforts at Ground Zero.
His speech was interrupted several times by protesters, some of whom lay on the floor and refused to get up, forcing security guards to drag them away.
“Get ’em out of here, get ’em out of here,” Trump said.
Earlier Monday, at an event at Trump Tower in Midtown billed as an unveiling of a “diversity coalition,” a few dozen supporters gathered to endorse the brash billionaire.
“Our country is divided. But we’ve come together to be successful,” Trump said in brief remarks. “We care about New York a lot. We love you all.”
The group surrounding Trump included several religious leaders.
