A quick-thinking Con Edison worker rescued a toddler who perched herself precariously on a window ledge in the Bronx Friday morning.
Essa Waggeh, 26, was working on a routine gas line inspection on Walton Ave. in Mt. Eden when he heard screams from around the corner.
A 2-year-old girl had pushed out a piece of cardboard that was next to an air conditioner in the window and climbed onto the narrow ledge — 25 feet above the sidewalk.
“I got the ladder, set it up against the building, and got the baby,” Waggeh said. “Her whole body was all the way out. She was crouching on the window by the ledge on the air conditioner.”
The 26-year-old, who has only been on the job with the power company for two weeks, was humble about his heroics.
“I just did a good deed,” Waggeh said. “I just knew she was in danger. So I went up and got her.”
Police and family said the tot, who was visiting relatives survived the scare unscathed.
“She’s fine, perfectly fine,” said the child’s aunt, Yesenia Santos, 24. The little girl’s grandmother and other adults were in the apartment at the time, sources said.
No charges have been filed, according to police. The case was referred to the Administration for Children’s Services, police said.
