It was New York's great escape. Two convicted killers, David Sweat and Richard Matt, escaped from New York?s largest maximum security prison Clinton Correctional Facility on June 6, 2015, triggering a massive three-week manhunt. The inmates were later stated to have tunneled out of the facility with hacksaw blades, provided by corrections department employee, Joyce Mitchell. It was later discovered that Mitchell was supposed to pick up the inmates and flee with them to Mexico, but she backed out and the two men went on the run. After weeks on the lam, Matt was shot by U.S. Border Patrol tactical unit in Malone, New York on June 26, 2015 and Sweat was captured and taken into custody 2 days later in Constable, New York (pictured here).

They got out with a bang.

The wayward wife accused of helping two killers break out of upstate’s Clinton Correctional Facility had sex with both of them, sources told the Daily News.

Investigators are looking into allegations that Joyce Mitchell worked up a sweat in a “sexual incident” with cop killer David Sweat and performed oral sex on the other escapee, Richard Matt, sources told The News on Monday.

Mitchell, who met the pair in 2013, was investigated by prison officials after a co-worker reported she had inappropriate contact of a sexual nature with Sweat, the sources said.

Her supervisors found nothing to back up the claim because Mitchell continued to supervise Sweat, who turned 35 on Sunday, and the reportedly well-endowed Matt, 48, as they stitched Metro-North uniforms in the prison tailoring shop.

EDITORIAL: DIG AS DEEP AS THEY DID ON PRISON ESCAPE

Her husband, Lyle Mitchell, was either very forgiving — or completely in the dark — because he would drive with his wife every morning to the maximum-security prison in Dannemora, sources said.

The alleged three-way prison romance fell apart when Matt and Sweat broke out — and Mitchell, 51, failed to show up at the rendezvous spot with the getaway car, sources said. She instead ended up in a hospital after an apparent panic attack.

Now, Mitchell is in jail. Sweat and Matt have been on the lam for 10 days. And Gov. Cuomo has given the state inspector general’s office the green light to investigate the dramatic breakout.

Clinton County Sheriff David Favro declined to discuss whether Mitchell had sex with the convicts, but said it’s clear they used her.

Mitchell was arrested Friday for allegedly giving the inmates some of the tools that they used in their escape.

“I think more than anything, they just played on her emotions,” he said.

LOVETT: UPSTATE PRISON ESCAPE CREATES PROBLEMS FOR CUOMO

Meanwhile, Clinton County District Attorney Andrew Wylie said Mitchell might face additional charges and that others could be arrested. Wylie declined to comment on a Monday Daily News report that Matt and Sweat had “planned on killing” Mitchell’s husband.

The DA’s remarks came after Mitchell, wearing a bulletproof vest, made a second appearance before a judge. Her wrists pinched by handcuffs, Mitchell barely spoke after lawyer Keith Bruno waived a preliminary hearing and — citing a conflict of interest — handed off her case to another attorney, Stephen Johnston.

Mitchell was wearing the vest over a black-and-white striped jail jumpsuit for her protection, officials said.

Cuomo critics are already questioning whether prison staffing and the governor’s insistence on cutting back on overtime pay figured in the breakout. Team Cuomo countered by noting that the number of uniformed officers at Clinton is up this year — as is OT pay.

EXCLUSIVE: ESCAPEES PLANNED TO KILL JOYCE MITCHELL’S HUSBAND

Mitchell was arrested Friday and charged with giving the convicts hacksaws, chisels and a screwdriver to break out of the forbidding prison near the Canadian border.

Investigators zeroed in on Mitchell not long after the cons were reported missing early on June 6.

Matt, who has a history of jail escapes, was serving a life sentence for killing and dismembering a former boss. Sweat was doing life for murdering a sheriff’s deputy.

“It’s a safety precaution that they take in all high-profile cases,” Clinton County District Attorney Andrew Wylie said of the bulletproof vest Joyce Mitchell wore to court Monday.
