This was one very baaaaaad idea.

The combination of teen love and prom season compelled four Georgia teenage boys to steal a goat from the home of an ex-police officer in Milton Saturday night, police said. They told police one of them intended to use the goat to ask a girl “Would you goat with me to prom?” according to a police report obtained by the Daily News.

They may have thought they were just kidding around, but the three 17 year-olds in the group were taken to jail last weekend.

Brendan Lawler, Jacob Michels, Walker Boston and a 16-year-old juvenile male were charged with theft of livestock after allegedly stealing the family’s 2-year-old pet goat Chip Saturday, Milton Interim Chief John A. Huey told The News.

Chip, a 2-year-old goat, was stolen from his Milton, Ga., family Saturday night by four teenage boys. Chip is a pet for the family's two girls.

A neighbor told police he saw the four boys place something into one of their two vehicles and drive away. The neighbor said he confronted the suspects, but one told the witness he had a shotgun, the report states.

The witness reported the incident to police who arrived at the scene and found Boston had dropped his wallet at the property.

Police also conducted a traffic stop of the suspects’ two white vans and discovered the goat inside.

Michels told police he wanted to take the goat for a prank to ask his girlfriend to prom. He didn’t share any other details of his planned proposal, Huey said. Police did not find a shotgun in their possession.

The goat was returned home to the family where Chip serves as a pet for the owner’s two daughters, Huey said. The juvenile had previously dated the homeowner’s niece and that’s how he knew the family had a goat, he said.

Milton is a suburb of Atlanta and though there are a lot of properties with horses, it is not a rural community, he said. But some residents do have goats and cows, he said.

The owner told TV station FOX Atlanta he would have let the teenagers borrow Chip for the stunt if they had asked for permission.
