The 168-year old Brooklyn Borough Hall is getting a 21st century makeover.

The historic Greek Revival-style building is getting outfitted with high-tech sensors that will monitor things like energy usage, overcrowding, and even whether the handicapped-accessible entrances are blocked, according to Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams.

The high-tech monitoring system is part of a new pilot program from Adams’ office, the computer company Dell and flowthings.io, a DUMBO-based tech startup that’s so hip it shuns capital letters.

“Government must keep pace with the technological changes that are transforming our economy in the 21st century,” said Adams.

The info gleaned in the pilot program will be used for tech research in real-time data use in other cities, officials said.

Adams said the partnership with Dell and flowthings.io is just the “tip of the iceberg” in Brooklyn, which is striving to be the Silicon Valley of the east.

Manhattan’s tech sector is often called “Silicon Alley,” and Adams’ office is trying to think of an equally catchy nickname for its booming startup culture.
