Instead of accepting the free tickets, the sorority politely declined and asked that the Diamondbacks and Fox Sports offer tickets to a future game to families at A New Leaf, an Arizona organization that supports victims of domestic violence.

Domestic violence awareness is Alpha Chi Omega’s national philanthropy and the media attention happened at a fitting time as October is domestic violence awareness month.

Alpha Chi Omega posted a full statement to their Facebook page thanking both organizations and stressing the importance of the philanthropy.

“If everyone who viewed this statement took the time to make a donation in recognition of domestic violence awareness, which is Alpha Chi Omega’s national philanthropy, we would be so grateful!” the statement read. “We are happy to have the opportunity to shed some positive light on such a sensitive subject.”
