Zayn Malik’s Twitter followers have gone in a downward direction.
A solo demo by the 22-year-old former One Direction star was dropped Tuesday by producer Naughty Boy and the Internet went wild.
Fans were so hurt by Malik, who claimed upon his departure from the boy band last week that he wanted “some private time out of the spotlight,” that an estimated 50,000 Twitter fans stopped following him, according to reports.
While Malik still has a huge following of over 14 million, he certainly received backlash from the One Directioners who felt betrayed by the song’s release.
Naughty Boy shared the track, “I Won’t Mind” via Twitter before quickly removing the audio from SoundCloud while in the midst of a war of words with Malik’s former bandmate Louis Tomilson.
“Wow @NaughtyBoyMusic you’re so inconsiderate pal, seriously how f—ing old are you? Grow up! #masterofallwisdom,” Tomlinson wrote, responding to now-deleted tweets that were allegedly about the Naughty Boy/ Malik collaboration.
Naughty Boy took to Twitter late Tuesday to address the haters.
“No one is against anyone here. the fans made all of us. not just a chosen few. the love is alive. hate just doesn’t belong there,” he wrote.
