Schools Chancellor Carmen Fariña has tapped a veteran educator to run the public schools’ technical education programs.
Former principal John Widlund will lead the buildout of vocational programs as career and technical education director, Fariña said Monday. The city has opened 33 CTE schools since 2002.
“Strengthening our CTE programs is an important priority, and John brings critical expertise,” she said.
“CTE opens up college opportunities as well as career opportunities,” said Widlund, who has worked in city schools since 1987 and started his new job Monday.
