You’ve heard of smart phones, now meet the smart shirt.
Designed for serious athletes and causal fitness fans alike, the new PoloTech shirt comes pre-fitted with silver fibers that can track biometric data like heart rate, breathing and calories burned. This data is monitored during any type of physical activity, from walking around the block to running a marathon, and then transmitted wirelessly to the wearer’s smart phone.
“This is the most advanced shirt in the world, period,” said Stéphane Marceau, CEO of OMsignal, a Canadian company that partnered with Ralph Lauren to design the PoloTech shirt. “It’s the next wave of smart, active apparel.”
To record accurate data, the PoloTech shirt fits snuggly around the wearer’s chest. The connected app works with Apple mobile devices and includes a number of built-in workouts designed to harness the benefits of high-intensity functional fitness.
“These workouts are for people who want to get the maximum workout from a short time,” said Chris Ryan, a PoloTech fitness expert who helped design the app. “They focus on agility, cardio and strength training.”
The shirts have a suggested retail price of $295 and will be available August 27 online and at Polo Ralph Lauren’s NYC flagship store and at the US Open store.
