City Councilman James Vacca, a Bronx Democrat and apparent “Golden Girls” superfan, announced on Twitter that he was gay on Friday.

“After talking w/ my friends & family I’ve decided to come out publicly as a gay man,” Vacca tweeted.

“Now back to the Golden Girls! #outandproud #comingout.”

In a statement, he said he came out now because the timing felt right.

“Every person has their own journey and I am fortunate to be able to make the decision to come out on my own terms. My orientation is an innate part of who I am and I want my friends, family, colleagues, and constituents to share in this part of my life,” he said.

He also said he wasn’t looking for a lot of attention.

“I don’t want a spectacle or media event; instead I just want your respect as another human being,” he said.

He was immediately greeted with a flood of online support.

“Your courage deserves our respect and the highest admiration possible,” tweeted City Councilman Daniel Dromm, a Queens Democrat.

Stonewall Democrats of NYC, a gay political group, tweeted “Congratulations, Council Member! … [We] welcome u to our community as an openly gay man. xoxo.”

“I’m honored to know you and stand with you,” Gov. Cuomo tweeted Friday afternoon.
