A jet loaded with medical supplies took off from JFK Airport Tuesday on a humanitarian mission to an African country ravaged by the Ebola virus.

The Boeing 737 cargo plane was filled with 15,000 pounds of rubber gloves, masks, hospital gowns and other medical supplies desperately needed in Liberia.

“Our approach here was to just fill the plane up as much as we could,” said Steve Smith, executive director of disaster-relief group Airlink.

Ross Perot Jr., son of former presidential candidate Ross Perot, and his wife paid for the $500,000 flight to Monrovia. The $750,000 worth of supplies was donated by five nonprofit groups.
