A homeless Oregon man held up a bank for just $1 so he’d be sent to jail and could receive medical care, police said.
Timothy Dean Alsip, 50, allegedly entered a Bank of America branch outside Portland at 10 a.m. Friday and handed over a note which read: “This is a hold up. Give me a dollar.”
Unsure staff handed over the bill to the mild-mannered crook.
With the cash in his hand, Alsip then reportedly sat down in the lobby and waited for the cops to arrive.
He later put up no fight as officers arrested and charged him with second-degree robbery and third-degree theft.
During questioning, CBS Seattle reports he said he was in desperate need of medical care and the only way he’d receive it is if he was in jail.
Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office later revealed that Alsip, who has no previous criminal convictions, has seen his robbery charge dismissed.
But he remains in jail, having failed to pay a $40,000 bail.
