Four days ago, on Sunday, the Daily News reported that Anthony Weiner had spent $43,100 in campaign funds to pay a private-investigative firm to track down how his Twitter account was supposedly hacked in 2011.

The obsessively sexting former congressman responded by denying in vague and cloudy terms that he had issued checks to T&M Protective Services stemming from the attempted coverup that led to his resignation from office.

Since Weiner’s word can no longer be trusted on any score, The News on Tuesday asked Weiner and his campaign to release documents that could substantiate his claim never to have devoted campaign money to an investigation he knew to be bogus because, of course, he had sent the sexually explicit messages.

As a mayoral contender who seeks control of a $70 billion budget with lots of room for finagling, Weiner easily can put to rest the question of whether he filched money — by producing every piece of paper having to do with the services provided to him by both his law firm, Baker & Hostetler, and T&M Protective Services.

The questions put in writing to Weiner press secretary Barbara Morgan, who has been profanely busy of late, were direct.

Among the queries:

l Did Weiner orally or in writing ask either firm to investigate the fictitious hacking? If he made such a request in writing, will he release the letter or email?

l Will Weiner provide copies of bills submitted by both firms to him or to his campaign?

l Will Weiner provide copies of all correspondence between himself or his campaign and the two firms?

Morgan’s response as of 5:30 p.m. Wednesday:

“So, just so I know, what the exact question is, you are looking for documents that say what we said in our statement?”

No. We are looking for the documentable facts that Weiner has refused to produce.
