Mike Goodson remains on the Jets roster, despite being slapped with weapons and drugs charges on Friday, but offensive lineman Willie Colon doesn’t expect that to be the case much longer.
“It’s one of the things where it’s zero-tolerance with stuff like that,” Colon told the Daily News Saturday at the Alliance for Lupus Research walk at MetLife Stadium. “It’s sad. Mike could have been huge for us.”
“He wasn’t around a lot, so I didn’t really get to see him a lot. For the most part, I was kind of anticipating seeing how he was going to do in OTAs,” added Colon.
The lineman, who also signed as a free agent this offseason, said the team hadn’t said anything to the players about Goodson yet and he heard about it through the news. “A lot of guys were upset. They knew the type of ballplayer (he was),” Colon said.
Goodson was charged Friday morning with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a loaded handgun and possession of a hollow-point bullet. The running back was the passenger in a stopped car on the left center lane on Interstate 80-West in Denville, N.J. at 3:15 Friday morning, according to New Jersey State Police, who said both Goodson and the driver were intoxicated.
The Jets running back’s $50,000 bail was paid later Friday when he was released from Morris County Jail.
Goodson signed a three-year, $6.9 million contract with the Jets in March.
Both John Idzik and Rex Ryan declined comment on the issue Saturday.
