The biggest nerds in the Hollywood galaxy came out in full Force to gush over the release of the first “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” teaser trailer.
Self-proclaimed ” ‘Star Wars’ fan from way back” Kevin Smith said the 88-second pop culture event made him flashback to his childhood, when he forced his parents to take him to a 1979 re-release of the original “Star Wars” just to see the first trailer for its sequel, “The Empire Strikes Back.”
“The cynicism and crap that comes along with being a fat, middle-aged man goes away in the face of this trailer,” Smith told saComlink in a video interview about his reaction to seeing the new trailer for director J.J. Abrams’ “Episode VII.” “At least it did for me, man.
“It took me back to that moment in my youth.”
Other celebrities took to Twitter like dancing Ewoks to celebrate “The Force Awakens” trailer, which landed more than a year before the film’s Dec. 18, 2015 release date:
“Hot Fuzz” director Edgar Wright tweeted that the trailer gave him “the tingles” and gave a shoutout to the film’s hero, British actor John Boyega, who had also starred in the Wright-produced, “Attack the Block.”
The first installment in a new trilogy, “The Force Awakens,” also sees the return of original “Star Wars” trilogy stars Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Anthony Daniels (C-3P0), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) and Kenny Baker (R2-D2).
Newcomers John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o and Andy Serkis round out the cast.
